Here at Marshalls Creek, we are more than just a chiropractic center. In fact, you’ll notice that our full name is “Marshalls Creek Wellness Solutions.” We know that many patients come in seeking chiropractic treatment without even realizing the myriad of other wellness services we offer. To help our patients reap the full benefits of our wellness center, we’re going to take some time to answer some frequently asked questions about the chiropractic field and the wellness programs we offer here at Marshalls Creek.

What Kinds Of Conditions Can Chiropractors Treat?

Chiropractors can treat a wide variety of conditions. The most obvious ones are spine, neck, or back pain. They can also treat pregnancy-related back pain, sciatica, whiplash, sports injuries, spinal conditions such as herniated discs or degenerative disc disease, and headaches caused by spinal misalignments. Studies have even shown that chiropractic care can help lower high blood pressure in some cases.

What Is That Popping Sound?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions about chiropractic care. You’ll notice that a chiropractic adjustment makes a “popping” sound, just like when you crack your knuckles. During an adjustment, the joints are experiencing a quick “stretch.” This stretch causes pockets of gas that naturally build up between the joints to “pop.” So, contrary to popular belief, this sound is not caused by bones or joints rubbing together, even if it might sound like it.

Is Chiropractic Effective?

While chiropractic treatment is not the only type of care available, it has been proven effective at treating a myriad of musculoskeletal conditions with less risk and complications than surgery or pain medicine. By carefully making adjustments to the vertebrae, chiropractors can relieve pressure, treat pinched nerves and herniated discs, improve posture, and realign the musculoskeletal system. Also, keep in mind that not everyone who comes into our office in pain is in need of manual adjustments. Our wellness center specializes in multiple forms of physical therapy, the Graston Technique, corrective exercises, massage therapy, and more.

Are Chiropractic Adjustments Safe?

We understand your concerns about the safety of receiving spinal manipulation. While any sort of health care comes with potential risks, chiropractic is statistically one of the safest forms of non-invasive care. The American Chiropractic Association calculates the risk for a serious complication due to a chiropractic adjustment at about 1 in 5.8 million. To put that into perspective, you are about 8 times more likely to be struck by lightning than experience an injury during a chiropractic adjustment, and most people don’t worry about getting struck by lightning.

Additionally, alternative treatments for neck and back pain carry significantly higher risks that manual adjustments. In fact, one-third of all hospitalizations and deaths resulting from gastrointestinal bleeding can be directly attributed to the regular use of aspirin, ibuprofen, or similar painkillers that many people take daily to manage their back and neck pain. And surgical treatment for pain can come with even more severe risks.

While chiropractic is generally safe, there are a few risk factors you should tell your chiropractor about so they can adjust their treatment as necessary or refer you to another specialist. These include — but are not limited to — spine cancer, osteoporosis, or high risk of stroke.

Is Chiropractic Treatment Safe For Children?

Yes! When performed by a skilled professional, even babies can be good candidates for chiropractic care. In fact, our very own Dr. Anne Marie has two post-doctoral degrees, one of which is in Chiropractic Pediatrics, a field that specializes in chiropractic care for pregnant mothers and children from the time they are born until they are in their teens.

What Do You Offer Besides Chiropractic Care?

We offer a wide array of unique wellness programs. As a wellness center, we are focused on your overall health and well-being.
